BAMSC | BLACK APPAREL MAKERS SUPPORT CIRCLE – LOS ANGELES

Community Participation & Service Policy

Black Apparel Makers Support Circle - Los Angeles (BAMSC)

Black Apparel Makers Support Circle – Los Angeles is committed to providing a respectful, professional and constructive environment for individuals participating in or seeking assistance through our programs, resources, workshops, referrals and community activities.

BAMSC is a free community resource. There is no membership requirement or consultation fee for general community guidance and referrals. Free access, however, does not eliminate the need for professional conduct, responsible participation and respect for the people and resources that make this work possible.

Our Community Standard

BAMSC exists to help strengthen the Black fashion and apparel ecosystem throughout Greater Los Angeles through guidance, education, connections, resources and community-building.

We ask everyone interacting with BAMSC – including workshop participants, Meetup members, individuals requesting assistance, resource partners, speakers, volunteers and other community participants – to conduct themselves respectfully and professionally.

Participants are expected to:

  • Communicate respectfully with BAMSC representatives, guests, resource partners and other participants.
  • Provide accurate and truthful information when requesting assistance or referrals.
  • Use BAMSC resources and introductions responsibly and for legitimate professional, educational or community purposes.
  • Respect the privacy, intellectual property, professional boundaries and time of others.
  • Follow reasonable instructions and participation requirements associated with BAMSC workshops, events and programs.
  • Refrain from threatening, harassing, discriminatory, abusive, intentionally disruptive or otherwise inappropriate conduct.
BAMSC's Right to Limit or Discontinue Participation

BAMSC reserves the right to decline, limit, suspend or discontinue assistance, participation, access to programs or community privileges when reasonably necessary to protect the organization, its participants, its resource partners or the integrity of its programs.

This may include circumstances in which:

  • A request falls outside BAMSC’s mission, geographic focus, capabilities or available resources.
  • BAMSC does not have an appropriate resource or referral available.
  • A participant repeatedly misuses BAMSC services, programs, referrals or communication channels.
  • Materially false, misleading or incomplete information is knowingly provided to BAMSC.
  • A participant engages in threatening, harassing, discriminatory, abusive or substantially disruptive conduct.
  • A participant misuses professional introductions or disregards reasonable boundaries established by a referred resource or professional.
  • Conduct creates a safety, privacy, legal, reputational or operational concern for BAMSC or its community
  • Continued participation would substantially interfere with BAMSC’s ability to serve others or carry out its mission.

BAMSC may also establish reasonable eligibility requirements, registration procedures, attendance limits and participation standards for individual programs, workshops or events.

Any decision to limit or discontinue services or participation will be made without unlawful discrimination and consistent with applicable law.

Workshops, Events & Community Activities

BAMSC workshops and community programs may be offered at no cost, but registration does not guarantee admission to every activity or continued participation.

Some programs may have limited capacity, eligibility requirements or specific participation expectations.

BAMSC may remove a participant from a workshop, event, online community or other activity when the participant’s conduct materially disrupts the program, violates these standards or creates a reasonable concern regarding the safety or well-being of participants or organizers.

Referrals & Professional Connections

BAMSC may provide referrals and introductions to independent businesses, organizations, professionals and community resources.

A referral is provided as a resource and does not constitute a guarantee, endorsement, warranty or representation regarding the quality, availability, pricing, performance or outcome of services provided by an independent third party. Participants are responsible for evaluating prospective service providers, discussing fees and terms directly with them, and deciding whether a particular professional relationship is appropriate.

BAMSC is not a party to agreements made between participants and independent businesses or professionals unless expressly stated otherwise.

Availability of Free Support

BAMSC strives to provide useful guidance and connections, but assistance is subject to available staff time, resources, expertise and community capacity.

BAMSC cannot guarantee that every inquiry will receive a referral, that every requested resource will be available or that every matter can be resolved.

The provision of free guidance does not create an ongoing professional, advisory, fiduciary, employment, agency or contractual relationship between BAMSC and the person receiving assistance.

Privacy & Confidentiality

Information submitted to BAMSC will be handled in accordance with BAMSC’s Privacy Policy and other applicable policies.

Participants should not share confidential, proprietary or sensitive information belonging to another person or business unless they have authorization to do so.

Protecting the Community

BAMSC’s ability to provide free community support depends upon responsible use of its programs, professional relationships and resources.

These standards are intended to protect access – not restrict it – and to help maintain a community in which people can exchange knowledge, build professional relationships and seek assistance with dignity and mutual respect.

Policy Updates

BAMSC may revise this policy as its programs, services and community activities develop. The version published on the BAMSC website will represent the current policy.
